Outreach is an important part of the mission of St. Paul’s. There is a diverse range of opportunities to volunteer. If you would like to know more about any of these ministries, please email The Rev. Nancy J. Vaders.
Service Opportunities
Throughout the year at local non-profits: Center of Hope family shelter, City with Dwellings overflow shelter, Street School lunches, etc.
Backpack Program
Delivers 125 meals per week to South Fork Elementary to address weekend student hunger.
Jail & Prison Ministries
Jail services by St. Paul’s clergy and volunteers throughout the year as well as the Christmas family gift-giving drive during Advent.
Kids Cafe
Tuesday- Thursday evenings St. Paul’s serves dinner followed by a homework session guided by volunteers who assist students with daily assignments.
Laundry Love
A ministry partnership with St. Anne’s and the Wake Forest Episcopal students. Every third Tuesday, provide dinner and quarters for folks in the community to do their laundry at a local laundromat.
Outreach Funding Advisory Committee (OFAC)
This committee visits local non-profits and makes recommendations to the vestry for financial outreach support from the Stedman Fund which is managed by the Winston-Salem Foundation.
Read Write Spell
Read Write Spell works to ensure that every child in Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools learns to read. We advocate for effective, equitable education; and we train educators, tutors, and families in the Science of Reading.

Rise Against Hunger
Twice a year, St. Paul’s parishioners pack over 10,000 meals that will be distributed around the world to address the hunger and nutrition needs of children and families.
Second Harvest Annual Food & Funds Drive
Each Year, St. Paul’s dedicates a Sunday to raising money and collecting food for Second Harvest Food Bank.
Financial Assistance Program
Each week, members of the community who are experiencing financial hardship due to a crisis can make an appointment to meet with the Director of Outreach and apply for financial assistance.
Summer Enrichment
For over 45 years, this summer program has been open to 1st-9th graders who live in the Thurmond St. neighborhood and those who attend Kids Café during the year.
This 4 week program runs during the month of July and is a combined effort of parishioner volunteers and paid programming staff to provide a wonderful camp experience that nourishes mind, body and spirit.
